d’Arenberg was established in 1912 in McLaren Vale and remains family-operated, with a strong reputation built on traditional winemaking and terroir expression. The 2019 Dead Arm Shiraz is drawn from old vines affected by Eutypa—yielding intensely concentrated Shiraz with powerful flavour. Harvested in small batches, the fruit was crushed via foot treading and basket pressing before ageing in a mix of new and used French oak barriques to create harmony between fruit intensity and savoury structure. The wine exhibits deep blackberry, mocha and dark chocolate alongside black olive and earth tones, framed by focused tannins and a vibrant acid spine. A commanding expression of both the vintage and estate style, it offers immediate appeal and cellaring potential for the next decade.
