Orlando Wines, founded in 1847 in the Barossa Valley, stands among Australia’s most historic producers, known for combining tradition with innovation across generations. The St Hugo label was created to honour Hugo Gramp, grandson of Johann Gramp, and his enduring influence on Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. The 1993 vintage was sourced from Coonawarra, a region defined by its terra rossa soils and cool climate, which consistently deliver Cabernet fruit of intensity and structure. Grapes were hand harvested from mature vines and fermented in small parcels before maturation in French oak barriques, a process designed to integrate varietal richness with savoury complexity. The finished wine shows layers of cassis, blackcurrant and mulberry woven with cedar, spice and earthy tobacco notes, carried by firm tannins and fresh acidity. With balance, length and cellaring potential, the 1993 release remains a benchmark Coonawarra Cabernet, capturing both regional pedigree and the refinement of the St Hugo style.
