St Hallett has been a Barossa Valley specialist in shiraz since its establishment in 1944, with Old Block the flagship wine sourced from some of the region’s oldest vineyards, planted as far back as 1912. The 1992 vintage expresses both the depth of these ancient vines and the character of a balanced Barossa season. The bouquet is layered with black cherry, blackberry and subtle spice, underpinned by savoury earth and gentle oak integration. On the palate, the wine shows richness and generosity, carried by fine, resolved tannins and a long, harmonious finish. Now fully mature, it demonstrates the ability of Old Block to combine concentration and complexity with ageworthy finesse, standing as a classic example of Barossa shiraz from the early 1990s.

Reviews

A rich, ripe and generous red from Australia that shows its depth with layers of black cherry, blackberry, plum and spice flavors that echo long on the finish. A distinguished wine that's delicious now but should improve through 2002. 1,500 cases made.
