Penfolds Bin 798 RWT Shiraz is a full-bodied, rich, and complex wine from the Barossa Valley in Australia. It is made from a blend of Shiraz grapes from some of the region's most prestigious vineyards, including Kalimna, Barossa Valley, and Marananga. The wine is aged in French oak for 18 months, which gives it its distinctive flavor profile.

The nose of Bin 798 RWT Shiraz is typically dominated by dark fruits, such as blackberries, plums, and cherries. There are also hints of spice, tobacco, and chocolate. The palate is full-bodied and plush, with flavors of dark fruit, spice, and oak. The tannins are well-integrated and the finish is long and lingering.

Bin 798 RWT Shiraz is a powerful wine that is best enjoyed with rich, flavourful foods. It pairs well with grilled meats, game, and hearty stews.

Reviews

Very deep, saturated purple-red colour; brown/woody spices and earthy/stony aromas layered with black fruits and tar. Smoky oak very present but balanced. Very firm and full-bdied, a powerhouse of a wine, the tannins coating gthe mouth. A big, bold, brawny wine in typical style, with mouth-gripping tannins and formidable length. Cellaring recommended!
Barossa Valley grapes selected for their regional character, lifted aromas, fine tannins and plush texture comprise this cuvée, which began as a Red Winemaking Trial (RWT) project in the early 1990s and first released in 2000 with the 1997 vintage. It's always an impressively generous and bold-fruited style, showcasing the Barossa's characteristic opulent black and purple berry fruit, dark espresso-like earthiness and chocolatey-smooth tannins, but in this stellar vintage there pops of cured meat and black olive along with violet florals and sweet sesame paste. The 14 months in French oak hogsheads, 80% new, is supporting not intrusive and it is already pretty complete.
