Poderi Aldo Conterno Romirasco Barolo 2016 stands as a distinguished jewel from the historic Bussia subzone, recognized as one of the most prestigious terroirs in the Barolo region of Piedmont, Italy. This exceptional Barolo hails from Romirasco, the oldest and most revered vineyard within the Conterno estate, originally planted by Aldo Conterno’s father. Celebrated for producing wines of remarkable longevity and complexity, Romirasco embodies a rich legacy of traditional Barolo craftsmanship.

The 2016 vintage benefits from ideal growing conditions that enhanced the ripeness of the Nebbiolo grapes and perfected the tannic structure, making it a year noted for exceptional balance and depth in Barolo wines. Crafted exclusively from old vines rooted in Romirasco’s unique soils, this Barolo reveals the vineyard’s legendary status as one of the greatest sites for producing some of the longest-lived wines in the estate’s history.

Visually, the wine displays a deep ruby red hue, inviting with its vibrant aromas of ripe dark cherry, wild berries, and delicate notes of rose petals and exotic spices. On the palate, it offers a harmonious interplay of power and finesse, combining a structured yet elegant texture with layers of dark fruit, licorice, and subtle earthy undertones. The finish is impressively long and refined, showcasing the wine’s complex character and outstanding aging potential.

Reviews

The dried flowers are so impressive on the nose here with lavender and lily, as well as raspberries and dried strawberries. Full-bodied, yet so tight and refined with fantastic precision and focus. Very reserved and tight now.
Similar to the neighbouring Cicala vineyard, Romirasco is slightly less steep with a bit more sand and magnesium in the soil. Nevertheless, the predominantly limestone-rich clay ultimately gives a forceful, robust and heady expression. It is more immediately scented than the Cicala with winter mint, cedar, sage blossom and rosemary emerging persuasively from the glass. Sumptuous and mouth filling, dark fruits coat copious chewy tannins that will need a few years to relax their assertive dry grip. This sees three months longer in large Slavonian casks than the estate’s Cicala and Colonnello.
