93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot

Diana Madeline is Cullen’s defining Cabernet blend, the product of generations of family stewardship and a focus on biodynamic farming in Margaret River. The 2016 vintage is driven by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, all sourced from estate-grown fruit. It was a year marked by even ripening and mild conditions, allowing for superb balance and clarity.

The nose is pure and inviting, with layers of blackcurrant, mulberry and plum, interwoven with violet, fennel, and graphite. The palate is sleek and tightly coiled, showing vibrant dark fruit, fine tannins, and bright acidity. Hints of savoury earth, ironstone, and subtle French oak emerge as the wine opens, adding depth and length. The finish is long, persistent, and marked by a mineral freshness.

This is a wine of understated power and elegance, built for the long haul but already revealing impressive harmony and detail. It captures the philosophy and craftsmanship that have made Diana Madeline a reference point for Margaret River Cabernet.

Reviews

93% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot, 1% each of malbec and petit verdot, matured for 14 months in French barriques (67% new). Elegance personified, no compromise likewise. Then rack up extraordinary attention to detail, and the Wilyabrup district, the greatest part of the Margaret River. Given these parameters, the fluid grace of this beautiful wine might seem almost inevitable. But, of course, it's not - it's the distillation of two generations. Drink by 2041.
Very deep, bright purple/red colour leads into a sweetly ripe, rich berry and violet bouquet which is fruit-driven, vibrant and fresh. Blueberries and herbs. Wonderfully elegant and piercingly intense. An outstanding wine. Drink: 2020-2046.
