Oddero Barolo Villero 2016 stands as a remarkable testament to the rich heritage and meticulous craftsmanship of one of Piemonte’s most historic Barolo producers. With a legacy extending over two centuries in La Morra, the Oddero family has been a defining presence in traditional Barolo winemaking, renowned for delivering wines that authentically express the noble Nebbiolo grape and the distinctive terroir of the region.

This exceptional 2016 vintage originates from the prestigious Villero vineyard, known for its ideal south-facing exposure and limestone-clay soils that contribute a profound structure and nuanced complexity. Crafted exclusively from 100% Nebbiolo grapes, the wine embodies a perfect harmony of power and finesse. Its firm yet supple tannins and vibrant acidity highlight the vintage’s excellent aging potential, promising a captivating evolution over time.

The 2016 growing season in Piemonte was characterized by favorable weather conditions, resulting in grapes of remarkable purity and concentrated flavors. On the nose, the Oddero Barolo Villero 2016 reveals intense aromas of ripe red cherry and delicate rose petal, intertwined with subtle undertones of truffle and well-integrated leather. These aromatics unfold into a full-bodied palate rich with layered notes of dark fruit, spice, and earthy nuances, culminating in a long, refined finish that showcases the winemaker’s dedication to traditional techniques and precise vineyard management.

Oddero was among the pioneering estates to estate bottle Barolo in the late 1800s, a period when bulk wine sales predominated. This forward-thinking approach, coupled with uninterrupted family stewardship—including notable figures such as Giacomo and Luigi Oddero—ensures that every bottle of Barolo Villero 2016 offers exceptional authenticity and consistency. Sourced from a premium private cellar, this wine not only highlights Piemonte’s revered Nebbiolo varietal but also serves as a distinguished collector’s item.

Experience the timeless elegance and profound character of Oddero Barolo Villero 2016, a wine that perfectly captures the essence of traditional Barolo excellence from one of Italy’s most venerable vineyards.

Reviews

The Oddero family suggests tasting their single-vineyard Baroli in this order: Villero, Rocche di Castiglione, Brunate and Bussia. Starting off with the 2016 Barolo Villero, you get an open-knit but very precise expression in which the Nebbiolo grape is able to show its delicate nuances of wild cherry, rose hip, pressed violet and cola. The wine is silky and graceful. This Villero hits all the magic spots in the classic 2016 vintage. It should be exciting to chart its progression over time.
Aromas and flavors of strawberries, cherries and walnuts are well-integrated into a medium body with round, fine tannins and a delicious finish. It really has strength with finesse. Goes on and on. Better after 2023.
