Cavallotto’s 2010 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is a profound expression of traditional Barolo from Castiglione Falletto. The Cavallotto family, pioneers in estate bottling since 1948, meticulously cultivates the Bricco Boschis vineyard, with the Vigna San Giuseppe parcel representing its pinnacle. This south-facing site, characterized by calcareous marl soils, yields wines of remarkable structure and longevity.
In 2010, a vintage celebrated for its balance and aging potential, the wine underwent spontaneous fermentation with extended maceration, followed by over four years of aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The result is a wine of exceptional depth and complexity.
The nose reveals layers of wild berry, rosehip, licorice, and white truffle, underpinned by earthy tones of forest floor and leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful, with firm tannins and vibrant acidity supporting flavors of dried cherry, grilled herbs, star anise, and clove. The finish is long and savory, with a saline minerality that speaks to its terroir.
This Riserva is entering its prime drinking window, offering immense pleasure now and the promise of further evolution through 2035. It pairs excellently with braised meats, game, and aged cheeses.
