Cullen Cabernet Merlot 1999 is a remarkable expression from one of Margaret River’s most esteemed wineries, Cullen. This vintage captures the essence of the region’s unique terroir and the winery's dedication to crafting premium red blends that showcase balance, elegance, and complexity. Prior to 2001, this wine carried the label Cullen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, marking an important chapter in Cullen’s history as a producer of refined, terroir-driven wines.

Hailing from a private cellar collection, the 1999 vintage stands out for its harmonious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Cabernet contributes a bold structure and depth, while the Merlot adds rich, velvety texture, resulting in a wine that is both powerful and approachable. Its deep garnet color envelops layered aromas of ripe dark berries, cedar, and subtle earthy undertones, all reflective of the Mediterranean climate and premium grape-growing conditions that define the Margaret River region.

The 1999 season was marked by favorable weather patterns that led to grapes of concentrated flavor and optimal ripeness. This vintage is renowned for its excellent aging potential, allowing the wine to develop increasingly refined complexity, softened tannins, and a persistent, memorable finish over the decades.

As a flagship expression of Cullen’s winemaking expertise, this Cabernet Merlot embodies the heritage and meticulous craftsmanship that have brought global recognition to the winery. Its provenance from a select private cellar enhances its exclusivity, making it a prized acquisition for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate Australian premium wines.

Experience the legacy of Margaret River through this exquisite Cullen Cabernet Merlot 1999, a distinguished red blend that continues to represent the pinnacle of Australian winemaking tradition.

Reviews

Meaty, slightly smoky ethereal fragrance deeply laden with brooding dark fruits. Sumptuous, opulent palate of remarkable depth and drive, saturated with concentrated, juicy berry cabernet, black cherry/tobacco merlot influences and cedar/mocha oak. Framed by firm, tightly knit tannins, it finishes long and persistent, with lingering dusty, minty nuances. Drink 2019-2029.
Di and Vanya Cullen consider 1999 to be one of the greatest vintages, and it shows in this imperious wine. Strong purple-red, the powerful but pristine bouquet proclaims the blackberry-blackcurrant-cassis fruit of the palate framed by the inimitable Cullen tannins which run through from the mid-palate to the finish.
