Burgundy Domaines such as this are a rare find – even more exceptional because the vineyard holdings here are almost entirely made up of Grand Cru and Premier Cru parcels in Vosne/Echézeaux.

Domaine François Lamarche's Clos Vougeot is located in the upper section of this vast, walled Grand Cru vineyard, close to the Château, where the soils are thin and stony, creating wines of greater precision and elegance. The site produces wines with a fine balance between richness and structure, a hallmark of the Lamarche style.

The 2012 vintage was marked by a cooler growing season, producing wines with natural freshness and subtlety. This Clos Vougeot shows a finely textured palate with layers of red fruit, earth, and a touch of spice. The tannins are firm yet elegant, providing a solid backbone that will allow the wine to develop gracefully over the coming years.

Reviews

"The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a lively bouquet with darker berried fruit than the Echezeaux – indeed, quite broody and introspective compared to some of the more outgoing examples from the hallowed clos. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins. The acidity is nicely judged and there is a self-effacing, refined finish with hints of white pepper lingering long on the finish. This is should drink early but age deceptively long."
"A fresh, cool and perfumed nose of mostly red currant and cherry is liberally laced with notes of earth, underbrush and oak nuances. There is a very forward, even lush palate impression to the bigger, richer and more powerful flavors that also possess fine mid-palate concentration though not necessarily better persistence. This too will need a few years of cellar time first."
