97% Shiraz, 3% Viognier
Yering Station, one of Victoria’s oldest wineries, situated in the Yarra Valley, has a long history of producing finely crafted cool-climate wines. The Reserve Shiraz Viognier combines the region’s signature Shiraz with a touch of Viognier, a technique borrowed from the Rhône Valley to enhance aromatic complexity and texture. The vineyards benefit from well-drained soils and a moderate climate, and are managed sustainably to maintain vine health and fruit quality.
The 2015 vintage was marked by a cool growing season with steady ripening, allowing for the development of ripe, nuanced flavours while retaining freshness. Grapes were hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts; whole-bunch inclusion of Viognier during Shiraz fermentation added complexity and lift. The wine was matured in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels, which impart subtle spice and structure. Aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and violet are layered with floral notes and hints of white pepper. The palate is elegant and medium-bodied, with fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and a persistent, savoury finish. Yering Station Reserve Shiraz Viognier 2015 is a refined and expressive cool-climate Shiraz that balances richness with poise and showcases the estate’s commitment to tradition and quality.
