Baileys of Glenrowan, founded in 1870 in Victorias northeast, has been central to the fortified wine traditions of both Glenrowan and nearby Rutherglen, with a reputation for richly styled muscat and topaque. The 1980 Liqueur Muscat was produced from late harvested muscat grapes, partially raisined before fortification with neutral spirit and transfer to seasoned oak for extended maturation. Decades of oxidative ageing under the regions warm continental climate built the hallmark intensity of the style, layering treacle, raisin, spice and roasted nut characters with savoury rancio complexity and remarkable length. Bottled as a single vintage expression, the 1980 Liqueur Muscat represents both a rare collector’s release and a direct link to Glenrowans fortified heritage, showcasing the depth and longevity that have made northeast Victoria one of the worlds benchmarks for aged muscat.
