Giant Steps Known Pleasures Shiraz 2017 offers a refined, site-driven take on McLaren Vale Shiraz under the watchful eye of a Yarra Valley–based team. Crafted with about 30% whole clusters and fermented naturally, the wine opens with expressive aromatics of violets, jasmine, fresh herbs, and ripe blackberries. Eleven months in French oak adds spice, cedar, and a textured frame without overshadowing the fruit.

On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied with energetic acidity and gently firm tannins that guide the fruit through to a savoury, pepper-tinged finish. The interplay between plush black fruit and fresh structure gives Known Pleasures both immediate appeal and a grounded sense of place. It’s a polished, elegant Shiraz that bridges coastal boldness with winemaking restraint.

Reviews

A fresh‑fruited shiraz showing plenty of violets, jasmine, dried herbs, blackberries, bark and spices. Medium to full body, a delicious line of acidity, no shortage of spicy fruit and a tangy yet chewy finish...
Dark red with medium colour density. Pure cherry and plum aromatics. The palate is snappy and bright with defined, intense cherry and raspberry flavours. The tannins are soft and the acidity bright. A flavoursome, modern style with excellent depth of flavour. (Screwcap)
