Kinloch Wines, a family-owned estate established in Mansfield in Victoria’s high country, has built a reputation for expressive cool-climate reds crafted with care and regional precision. The 2002 Pinot Meunier is a distinctive bottling, highlighting a varietal more often reserved for blending. Fruit was sourced from elevated vineyards that enjoyed a mild, even vintage, ensuring slow ripening and flavour development. After traditional fermentation, the wine was matured in French oak to enhance texture and complexity without overwhelming the purity of fruit. Aromas of cherry, stewed plum and violet lead into a palate layered with sour cherry, spice and subtle aniseed, supported by soft tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is savoury and persistent, reflecting both the character of Pinot Meunier and the elegance of the Mansfield terroir. A rare Australian example of this grape, it remains an intriguing and cellar-worthy release, combining varietal rarity with regional authenticity.
