Wynns Johnson's Block Shiraz Cabernet 2004 is a masterful blend that exemplifies the pinnacle of South Australian winemaking. This distinguished vintage combines the bold intensity of Shiraz with the structured elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon, delivering a wine of exceptional depth, complexity, and balance.

Originating from the historic Johnsons Block vineyard in Coonawarra, planted in 1954, this is the first release of Cabernet Sauvignon as a single parcel from the oldest surviving Cabernet vineyard in the region. The unique terroir of Coonawarra, renowned for its rich terra rossa soils and cool maritime climate, imparts vibrant fruit character and refined tannins to the grapes. The 2004 vintage benefited from a balanced climate, producing grapes with optimal ripeness and concentration, resulting in a wine with superb structure and longevity.

This premium bottle has garnered critical acclaim, including an outstanding 95 points from esteemed wine critic Jeremy Oliver, highlighting its superior craftsmanship and quality. Sourced from a private cellar, each bottle offers a rare opportunity to experience a well-preserved example of this iconic Australian red blend.

On the palate, Wynns Johnson's Block Shiraz Cabernet 2004 reveals layers of dark berry fruits, such as blackberry and blackcurrant, intertwined with subtle spice notes and refined, velvety tannins. The wine’s lingering finish and elegant complexity make it a standout expression of South Australia’s celebrated Shiraz Cabernet style.

Experience the legacy of John Riddoch’s vineyard through this exceptional Shiraz Cabernet that embodies the spirit and heritage of premium South Australian wines.

Reviews

Very supple and stylish, this classically elegant shiraz cabernet blend has a delicate, dusty and faintly herbal bouquet of sweet red cherries, plums, mulberries and fresh cedar/vanilla oak lifted by musky scents of red flowers. It's elegant and willowy, with a sweetly oaked core of translucent, minty red fruits extending down a powdery spine of loose-knit tannins towards a long, savoury and faintly licorice-like finish of refreshing acidity. A typical 2004 vintage of effortless charm and balance.
