Elderton Command Shiraz 2006 is a distinguished example of Barossa Valley’s celebrated winemaking tradition, meticulously crafted by the second generation of the Ashmead family, Allister and Cameron, who co-manage Elderton Wines. This vintage embodies a refined balance of power and elegance, showcasing the unrivaled character of one of Australia’s premier Shiraz producers.

The Command captures the essence of the Barossa Valley terroir, renowned for its warm climate and ancient, deeply rooted vines that impart intense concentration and complexity to the fruit. The 2006 vintage is especially notable for delivering bold, full-bodied flavors marked by rich layers of blackberry and plum, enhanced by subtle spice and nuanced oak integration. These characteristics reflect careful vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques that honor Elderton’s longstanding heritage.

This wine is sourced from a premium private cellar, ensuring optimal aging conditions that allow the Shiraz to develop remarkable depth and finesse. On the palate, the Elderton Command Shiraz 2006 reveals concentrated dark fruit flavors interwoven with hints of black pepper and velvety tannins, culminating in a long, lingering finish that lingers gracefully.

As custodians of a rare part of Barossa Valley’s viticultural history, Allister and Cameron Ashmead continue their family’s dedication to producing world-class wines. Their commitment is evident in every bottle, as The Command remains a true expression of place, destined to be preserved for future generations. This premium Shiraz stands as a collector’s treasure and a benchmark for Barossa Valley excellence.

Reviews

The 2006 Shiraz Command is a glass-coating opaque purple. Aromas of scorched earth, pencil lead, sandalwood, meat blood, game, and blueberry are followed by a dense, voluptuous, layered Shiraz with tons of flavor. Impeccably balanced and concealing enough structure for 5-7 years of cellaring
Ripe and brooding, not a dense or heavy wine, but dark with black cherry, licorice, dark chocolate and wet earth flavors. This is complex and lingers easily on the open-textured finish.
